LOCATION: Altoona, PA
PROJECT COST: $250,000
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project consisted of the renovation of two existing chemistry laboratories into a new Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Laboratory. Project requirements for the new laboratory included determination of the magnetic field and placement of protective devices and signage, new ceilings, lighting, electrical, HVAC, alarm systems, interior finishes and access control for the entrance.
Due to the magnetic field from the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Unit, protective devices were constructed in the crawl space, roof and exterior with barricades and warning placards.
SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES
Specific needs for the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Unit were electrical power, dedicated emergency exhaust systems for the removal of nitrogen gas and an alarm system connected to the University Police.
