HISTORY

histoeyStiffler McGraw was incorporated in December of 1989 by David R. Stiffler and the late Steven R. McGraw. Dave served as company president from 1989 until 2000, when he semi-retired. He remains in a semi-retired role today and continues to serve several clients. Steve became president when Dave chose to semi-retire and continued as president until he passed away unexpectedly in August 2008 at the age of 43. Timothy A. Cooper was named the president of Stiffler McGraw upon Steve's passing and he continues in that role today.

Tim became a shareholder in 2000 and has been with the company since February 1990 when he was hired as the firm's first full-time employee. Stiffler McGraw now has 11 shareholders and has grown from 2 employee/owners in 1989 to more than 70 employees today; serving nearly 100 municipalities and authorities across Pennsylvania and numerous private sector clients.

The journey started by renting a small space along Penn Street in Hollidaysburg Borough and buying internal televising equipment in the early 1990’s. By 1994, the main office was moved to a newly constructed building at the current headquarters location along North Juniata Street. By the turn of the century, it had grown to more than 25 employees, added more shareholders, and subsequently expanded the services provided and the geographic service area. The first branch office opened in 2001 in Towanda, Pennsylvania giving the firm the leverage to expand its services into northeastern Pennsylvania.

Stiffler McGraw primarily concentrated on water, wastewater, stormwater, land development and surveying projects until 2003 when the company had the capability to significantly expand transportation services to their clients.

By 2006, with Stiffler McGraw exceeding 40 employees, it was necessary to construct an addition on to the original headquarters building to provide more office space for the growing company and its employees. That same year, the firm decided to expand its geographic location, again, by opening a second branch office established in Bedford, Pennsylvania.

In 2007, due to the increasing regulations, it became necessary to expand environmental services to better assist clients. That following year, during the tough economic climate change, Stiffler McGraw still continued to grow. That is the year the architectural division was formed which eventually led to the addition of structural, electrical and mechanical engineering services.

With the ever-growing company, the headquarters in Hollidaysburg began to fill up quickly. Due to this, Stiffler McGraw decided to purchase an adjacent building that previously housed an insurance office in 2011. This building became the new home for the firm's surveying and environmental departments.

Due to the rapid growth and need for services, Stiffler McGraw decided to purchase an engineering firm in Tidioute, Pennsylvania in 2012, additionally creating a third branch office location. From purchasing the company, Stiffler McGraw was able to expand its services to northwestern Pennsylvania. This business decision eventually led to the discussion of wanting to better serve clients and projects in southwestern Pennsylvania, as well as, developing an even stronger presence in the area. In due time, the firm opened its fourth branch office location in Indiana, Pennsylvania in 2015.

Stiffler McGraw is enthusiastic about the expansion to different geographic locations in order to better serve their clientele, all the while creating a footprint into the future!
